New Tuscan Wines from San Felice
November 16, 2024
The origins of San Felice date back to Etruscan times, as confirmed by the finds that have been unearthed on the estate. They redesigned the territorial layout of the Chianti landscape, changing from herding to agriculture and introducing the cultivation of vines. But the Borgo, as we know it today, was established in the early Middle Ages. The first mention dates back to 714, to the bitter disputes between the Bishops of Arezzo and Siena, as they fought over a number of parish churches in Tuscany. San Felice in Avana (or Avane) – this was its original name – was among the settlements subject to contention.
The vineyards are located in Tuscany’s three most prestigious wine making areas. Chianti Classico (150 hectares). Campogiovanni estate covers 23 hectares on the south-western side of the municipality of Montalcino delineated by valleys and rivers. Bolgheri is poised majestically by the sea with vines planted in the silt-sand soils.
Also on the property is the five star Borgo San Felice resort. Set amidst 685 acres of pristine woods and Chianti hills, the historic hamlet is acclaimed for its Michelin starred Il Poggio Rosso restaurant and spa.

2019 Campogiovanni Brunello di Montalcino
Campogiovanni’s vineyards are situated on the south quadrant of the Montalcino hill, where weather conditions and a particular combination of soils favor optimal ripening of the Sangiovese Grosso.
Campogiovanni is absolutely classic in style, averaging three years in Slavonian oak casks and 500-liter tonneaux, then another twelve months in the bottle. Five times award-winning wine in the TOP 100 Wine Spectator.

2022 Bell'Aja Bolgheri Red
The Bell’Aja vines, averaging five years old, are planted in the silt-sand soils typical to the area. The location captures a delicious sea breeze which blows over the vineyards, and the forests behind them cool the terroir at night. This creates ideal conditions for an elegant fruit ripening.
Made with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, the wine is purple in appearance, it exhibits a bouquet redolent of wild berry preserves, lifted by smooth notes of spice and notes of olives, blackberries, currants, and coffee beans. On the palate, it is beautifully balanced and delicious, with supple, velvety tannins.
