The history of viticulture in the Leitz family dates back to 1744. Johannes Leitz was born in 1964 in Rüdesheim am Rhein.
His grandfather Josef Leitz rebuilt the winery after it was completely destroyed in World War II. After that it was managed for a short time by Johannes father, who died when Johannes was 14 months old. The mother kept the business as a part-time job until Johannes Leitz took over the business with 2.9 hectares on his own in 1985 (after completing his training as a master winemaker).
Since then, Johannes Leitz has led the business to a nationally and internationally successful winery with a remarkable size of almost 130 hectares (of which around 40 hectares are owned by him). The main sales markets include Germany, Norway, Sweden, England and the USA; now another 33 countries.
